Celebrate Clerkenwell Design Week and experience the wonderful views of the city from the rooftop of Craft Central’s historic Victorian building in the heart of Clerkenwell. Discover the area’s fascinating history, insightfully delivered by London Historian and designer maker, Jane Young.

Jane will commence with a brief outline of Early Modern history in Clerkenwell to illustrate how the area became established. Continuing with its development as a residential and then later industrial area during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, populated with artisan trades, detailing famous residents and noteworthy buildings. Concluding with an outline of how Clerkenwell has transformed into the design district it is now with reference to the establishment of the Clerkenwell Green Association and later Craft Central.

Duration approximately one hour with time afterward for questions and discussion.

With a passion for the handmade Anna will share her love for craft and give you a step by step guide of the basics you need to knit a square. After this you can cast away as much as you like and see you your square grow into a scarf, a blanket or even cushion covers.... the list is endless.

Make prints from your own designs using Japanese Print Gocco machines with Xtina Lamb of Printed Wonders. Similar to silk screening but on a smaller scale, and with much faster results. You'll make up your own reusable screen and have lots of fun printing onto paper, stationery and fabrics. Xtina has run her popular print workshops for the Vintage by Hemingway festivals, Kensington Palace, Christie's Multiplied Contemporary Editions Fair and many more.
